India has made history to purchase 447 planes

 




Air India, owned by Tata Group, has made history with its record-breaking deal to purchase 470 planes from Boeing and Airbus. The investment comes at a crucial time, as the airline plans to position itself as a world-class proposition. By upgrading its fleet with modern, high-tech planes, Air India is expected to dramatically expand its network and offer a more upscale experience to passengers.


These orders surpass American Airlines' previous record-breaking deal of 460 planes in 2011. The vast scale of the order underscores Air India's ambition to regain its dominant position in India's bustling aviation market, allowing it to effectively compete with other major players like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad.


In addition to the acquisition of the latest planes, Air India's partnership with Star Alliance will offer an important strategic advantage. This collaboration with Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, which are also part of the alliance, has the potential to shift Indian travellers away from the Middle Eastern airlines, particularly for those travelling to the United States and Australia.


Although the new aircraft will improve the overall customer experience, it is important to note that Air India still needs to address the issue of the shortage of human resources and trained personnel. With its sights set on reaching a global market once again, the airline will have to focus on optimizing its route network and generating more connecting traffic to ensure sustained growth.


The Indian aviation market has already shown a strong recovery post-pandemic, and domestic traffic has grown by 48.9% year-on-year. The country is currently building 80 new airports in the next five years as part of a major push to improve infrastructure. Given the country's potential to be a major driver of growth in global aviation, it is estimated that domestic carriers will place orders for 1,500-1,700 aircraft over the next two years.


As Air India seeks to reclaim its reputation as a global standard-bearer for service, the airline will need to modernize its operations rapidly, including its software systems, maintenance, and human resources capabilities. If successful, Air India has the potential to position India's unique culture and diverse communities on the world stage once again.
